Hello PMM and other experts,
I have a remarks in my work permit extension which is Temporary Resident Status maintained as per R183 (6). Issued to passport expiry date; must be renewed for further extension. LMO XXXXXXX valid for 2 years.
BTW, my PP will expire on Jan.2014 same with my new work permit.
My question is: Does it mean I can travel outside canada until Jan. 2014 without applying for new TRV? Is this automatically a multiple entry??
Conditions on Temporary Residents
General conditions
183. (1) Subject to section 185, the following conditions are imposed on all temporary residents:
Continuation of status and conditions
(6) If the period authorized for the stay of a temporary resident is extended by operation of paragraph (5)(a) or extended under paragraph (5)(b), the temporary resident retains their status, subject to any other conditions imposed, during the extended period.
thanks a lot.
The WP is different from the TRV. Check the validity of your TRV. If it's multiple and up to Jan 2014 then you can travel outside Canada and reenter within the validity of your TRV.

Thank you for your prompt response job seeker.
When i processed my app in phils.
Manila VO issued a sticker visa feb. 2011-feb.2012- multiple entry.
I arrived here in canada apr. 2011 and a handwritten expiry date was apr.2012.
So it means, i still have to apply for trv, then?
Thanks again.
You need to apply for a new TRV if you're exiting Canada (other than the US) and wishes to re enter.

Is it common that the TRV for a work permit (2 year) would be multiple entry at the discretion of the VO or POE, or does that have to be requested?
okay thanks again for the response.
but i dont think the remarks doesn't makes sense. coz why still need to apply for new TRV if you travel abroad except US if it says TR status maintained.
correct me if im wrong, what i understood status maintained means TRV extended with multiple entry since i got a multiple entry before.
;D
Your status as a worker is maintained by virtue of your new WP. TRV does not get extended; if your TRV is valid only till Feb 2012, then your TRV i expired. But then again since I am not an expert then you can always try and exit and hopefully you're allowed to re-enter by virtue of what you believe is the valid extension of your visa.

The WP alone does not allow you to enter Canada. One must have a valid TRV which could be multiple or not. When one applies for a TRV the applicant requests for single or multiple entry and the decision is on the visa officer. When one enters Canada, the officer at the Port of Entry stamps the date on how long a stay one can have.

I checked the application in the link below and I don't see where you request single or multiple that's why I wondered how they decided on what to allow.
