work permit extension with the same employer

Hello all

I am a postdoc in an academic position (LMIA exempt) currently on a work permit in Canada that expires on Aug 31, 2017.

I have received a 2 year extension at the same position. I have a new offer letter with the following dates: July 31, 2017-July 30, 2019.

Can I apply for a new work permit (or the extension) for the same position with a month of overlap as mentioned above? Or does the new offer letter has to have the start dates from Sep 1, 2017?
