My Work Permit expires on January 30, 2017. I will be submitting my PR application (Canadian Experience Class) tomorrow. I have not worked since I was laid off in July 2016. Am I able to able for a bridging open work permit even though I am not currently employed? Or should I simply leave the country on January 30 and return as a visitor ?
You should apply for BOWP aflyer get PR application AOR (within 24 hours usually)
Note you won't be eligible for BOWP until get the PR R10 eligibility passed but looks like your BOWP application will be on hold until that.
If your PR and BOWP applications are OK you could get BOWP and PR approved almost simultaneously, you'll be legally in Canada under implied status as far you don't leave this country.
If something was wrong and BOWP is refused before get PR you should apply for Status restoration as visitor.
So after finish PR application (be sure everything is OK), prepare for BOWP application, it's not too complicated but there are some important details you can check in this forum and CIC (like $100+$155 fees) to get a successful application
