I have heard that I get 1 year work permit after completing 1 year PG diploma program. Is it possible to extend my visa once I get a full time job?

Hi,
Yes, If you can mange to get a skilled job, which is in demand there, you may apply for LMO(Labor market Opinion) through your employer, and get extension on the work permit.
Rather if you do a 2 years course/ 4 sem course, you will be eligible for a max. possible 3 years PGWP (post grad work permit, for international students studying a post secondary course from a recognized Canadian educational institute).
You don't need to HEAR it form anyone. Rather check the official CIC website, and can know in detail about all the rules and procedures.
