so I'm currently a student doing my bachelors degree in architecture, I'm thinking about doing a construction management program after I graduate and the program is a 1 year program. I have seen many people advising to go for a 2 year program to get a longer work permit after graduating but why is that?
wont I be able to get a permanent residence with a 1 year work permit?
and lets say I did manage to find a job with my 1 year work permit, would I be able to renew it in order to stay in the same job and eventually get my PR?

With a 1 year program you only qualify for a 1 year work permit. With a 2 year program you qualify for a 3 year work permit. Much much more difficult to get PR with only a 1 year work permit.
No - there is no guarantee you will be able to get PR with just a 1 year work permit. Many students find they cannot get a full year of work with just a 1 year work permit (because it takes them a while to find a job) or they don't have enough points to be selected for PR with just one year of work experience.
Assume it will be very difficult / next to impossible to renew or extend a 1 year work permit. This requires your employer to obtain something called an LMIA. The vast majority of employers are not willing to go through the process even if you are already working for them.
Taking only a 1 year program if your goal is PR is a bad plan. There's a reason you keep reading advice to take a 2 year program. Bad idea to ignore this advice.
