work experience without work permit in China, does it count?

Does my working experience in China working as an English teacher count if I didn't have a work permit during the time? I can provide a reference letter and also tax reports for all the period I was paid. But I was working on a business visa, just recently I changed it into working visa. Would that be a problem??

It will be counted from the day of working visa. Since CIC asks for Work Visa status.

Thank you for your reply! Are you sure it asks specifically for a work permit? I'm not Chinese, so I had a business visa while working here, since working visa was difficult to get. I have not read anywhere that the work experience gained needs to be while on a work permit ( I only have seen if you want to apply for CEC).

Also, not only in China, what about in other countries, did anyone have experience about this? Having the work experience but not on a work permit?

The Visa officer may ask for your status in that country. Which will mislead your work experience if you were on business Visa.

Websites teach people to work in China with business visa, but that's risky, as the proper visa is working visa.

Working in China with business visa, there may be more serious consequences:

1. A penalty between 5,000 RMB and 20,000 RMB; the exact amount is at the discretion of the police.
2. In severe cases, foreigners may be put in jail for 5-15 days as well as having to pay a fine.
3. They may also be deported or ordered to leave China.

Not sure if it's a good practice to resurrect the old threads but this one is the most relevant I could find.

Has anyone successfully (or unsuccessfully) gotten through the application process for FSW or other EE programs with similar circumstances? Meaning working illegally on the business visa in China (or any other country for that matter I guess). Would really appreciate your stories!

One important difference in my case is that I don't need to claim the teaching experience in China. Can this still pause a threat in terms of being admissible?
