Hi, my name is Danielle and I am a Canadian citizen and my boyfriend Oussama is from morocco. He's studied here in Canada for three years and just graduated in June. He says he needs to apply for a post graduate work permit (I think) but he said in order to apply he needs to have a passport that is valid for a certain amount of time (6 months at least I think? Is that true?) but his passport expires in a few months. He's in Montreal right now trying to get his renewed passport from the consulate there, but he's been waiting for over three months.( I guess the issue is that Morocco is being so slow). What are his options? I really don't want him to have to leave for a year or however long it would take him to come back (if they would let him back at all). Is there anything I can do? The deadline is coming up soon (the end of this month I believe). We're both really worried. I can't be apart from him for so long what can we do?
It's mandatory that he apply for the post graduate work permit within 90 days of completing his program. If the 90 days passes and he doesn't apply - he will no longer qualify for the PGWP. Even if his passport hasn't been renewed by the end of the 90 days, I would recommend he apply for the PGWP all the same before the 90 days runs out.
Implied status isn't something you apply for. It's something you get as a result of applying for something like a PGWP.
