Hello everyone. I'm currently on sick leave in my home country, and I'd like to spend that time relaxing with my husband in Canada. The sick leave requires no mandatory visits or conversations with any municipal authorities, as it's in relation to my education, and not a job or other. (The rules are different then). The plan is to apply for sponsorship so I won't have to worry about expensive travel insurances in case I need a doctor, and so forth.
I'm worried, however, that the application could affect my sick leave (I'm receiving financial support), since perhaps by applying my home country will be alerted and think I'm moving and thus cheating somehow. The plan is to go back to studying by fall, and then move to Canada the year after I'm done. It really makes no difference where I'm located while on sick leave, but I still worry my country will have an issue.
Does anyone have any idea how much the Canadian visa office communicates with your home country? Is it completely ridiculous to apply while on sick leave? Would it affect it? Should I just pay for the expensive travel insurances and wait with applying till later?
Well the problem you will have is satisfying CIC that you intend to relocate to Canada. They are very adamant that PR is not to be used as a convenient travel visa.
I suggest not applying until you intend to permanently relocate to Canada.

However, either you are allowed to receive the sick benefits while you are in Canada or you aren't. If you are, then there is nothing to worry about; if you aren't, then committing fraud would be a stupid thing to do regardless.

The requirement of proving intent to return to Canada is for a sponsor living abroad. There is no requirement in the application for an applicant to prove they are moving to Canada.
Oh really? I thought I read somewhere that Canada would contact the visa office in the person's home country.
It wouldn't be an offense to spend time abroad, not that I know of. I can't imagine they'd care much what I did during my sick leave.
I just figure it wouldn't seem honest if I applied to be sponsored in another country though, since it'd seem like I'm not 'sick' I suppose.
