Hi,

I currently have an application in process to bring my husband to Cananda from Jamaica.(spouse application for PR)
He was deported from Cananda for past criminal convictions but has since obtained a pardon.
Does anyone know if he can travel to the states with his PR status(once obtained) or if he will need to apply for anything special??

Thanks!!

"All Jamaicans who are not U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents need a visa to enter the U.S." - http://kingston.usembassy.gov/non-immigrant_visas.html

The Americans do not care about Canadian PR status. He will be treated exactly the same as every other Jamaican, as the U.S.A. goes by citizenship only.

How the U.S. will react to his criminal history depends on what the crimes were. As far as I know, the U.S.A. will not overlook the crimes even though he may have obtained a pardon in Canada.

Hi,

US non-immigrant visa application question 38:
Have you ever been arrested or convicted for any offense or crime, even though subject of a pardon, amnesty or other similar legal action?

Answer to this question will score negative points.

Thank you everyone for your answers....
We will still apply for a visa for him but not get our hopes up.
