Hello All,

I am coming in next week to Canada from USA on Visitor visa to marry my boyfriend [I am having USA visa right now]. As per the list of documents, we need 2 documents from List -1 ,List-2. From list-2,it has been stated that we need government issued id card with photo. My question is,

1) I called Brampton services today to confirm these. And they told me we wont allow your USA issued document. We want something from Canadian government.

2) In this case, visitor can not marry in Canada?

Please help me with second document gathering..

I married my Polish wife here in Canada (Ottawa, Ontario) and the only documents I provided for her were as follows:

- Polish Passport
- International Driver's Licence

I hope this helps!

Yes visitors can marry in Canada. I don't know what the person you talked to was on about. You need 2 pieces of ID, one needs to be picture ID, AFAIK, to first get your marriage license. Your passport should work for the picture requirement. The downside is I think in Ontario it takes a few months to get your marriage certificate.

The license you get the same day (unless they've change things since 2007) the certificate can take anywhere from 4-6 weeks after you apply for it.

Okay, Thank you guys.

I was also got scared to listen this.

Me and my boyfriend will take our passport and Indian driving licence to get marriage licence first.

Then we will go for registered priest and do marriage. Yes, you all are correct it will take 4-6 weeks to get marriage certificate.

Thank you so much.

Still the same process :)

I do believe they ask you to wait 4 weeks before applying for the certificate. I waited 2 weeks after my marriage and did the request online. Got married in the beginning of February 2015, and I received my marriage certificate at the end of March 2015.
