I had submitted the requested documents for parents' sponsorship and now CIC has returned the application, asking for the proof of relationship to the sponsor (#7 on the list).
I had provided the following (as I don't have DOB certificate):
- My 10th class certificate
- My Degree certificate
I don't have indian passport and Canadian passport doesn't have Father's name. My PIO card has it, should I send the copy of that ?
Also, if I have to make an affidavit in GTA for birth certificate/proof of relationship, where can I get it done ? or should I ask my parents to get one in India and send me here ?
Thanks for your help.
My time line:
Submitted the app april 2008
got a letter asking for documents and couple of forms, including application for PR, background declaration etc: June 2012
In your case it will be hard to prove the relationship, so the officer has a doubt on your application. I think you can try getting confirmation/certificate/copy of birth certificate from police/government department overseas, plus anything that will show the names of you and your parents to enhance your case. Contact a lawyer (not consultant) is recommended.
My 2 cents.
Is there any way you can request your birth certificate? If not, explain why not and be creative with methods to prove your parents are your parents. What legal documents do you have that shows your relationship? What other proof do you have - photographs of every year showing the whole family with you growing up with your parents? School records (registration documents, report cards that they signed)? Medical records from your paediatrician? If you are married, wedding invitations with their names on them? And, who can you get affidavits from to confirm that they are your parents (doctors, lawyers, religious leaders, etc)
If they are asking for more proof, this is your one shot to send them everything you can to convince them that they are indeed your parents.
- I have the PIO card from Indian government specifying my Father's name
- My education certificates showing the name
- Government issued 'Ration Card'
- My Voting Card in india (No longer valid as I am no longer Indian citizen)
- My Indian passport (which I surrendered on taking canadian citizenship)
I can try getting 'certificate of birth' from Indian consulate in Toronto, but I am not sure how much time would it take to get that.
