When to apply for PGWP?

Hi everyone,

I have been accepted at Durham College for Project management program which is for 8 months. I want to know that will I be allowed to stay for 8 months or 1 Year? Secondly if I am allowed to stay in Canada for 8 months, when should I apply for PGWP?

Applying for a PGWP all explained in link below. You must apply within 90 days of receipt of any course completion letter. Once you apply for the PGWP you are on an implied status pending a decision so you can work full time from sending the application in. Your study permit must still be valid when you apply for a PGWP so keep this in mind.

Provided your study permit remains valid beyond the 8 months which assume it probably does you can stay until you get your completion/ graduation letter. As said assuming your study permit is valid through this time else you would need to flip to visitor status. Note as above the permit needs to be valid to apply for a PGWP.

Neither of the two guarantees PR. While a PGWP do add points to your CRS score, other factors must be met as well. A 1 year PGWP only allows you to work for 1 year. Now assuming you are able to get a job immediately after application, you would be able to get the 1 year experience. However, if you get a job after several months, then you don’t get that 1 year experience. PGWP duration is fixed, regardless of finding a job in day 1 of your PGWP effectivity or after several months. A 3 year PGWP gives you a certain allowance. Even if you get accepted for a job after 1 year of job hunting, you can still get at least 2 years of work experience.

Agree with Rogelcorral there are no guaranteed routes to become a PR although getting a 3 year PGWP improves chances preferably by getting a job classified as 0,A or B.
