Hello. My boyfriend and I are planning to apply for common law sponsorship but we want to know when the best time to apply is? He has temporary residency till November but we will count as a common law couple in May. So can we apply anywhere after May? Or should we wait till closer to November to apply? I ask because I've heard of people applying for stuff and getting denied for applying too early. I don't know if that same rule applies to when applying for common law sponsorship or not?
you may submit inland sponsorship if applicant is living with sponsor in Canada and after May if you have live together for at least 12 months and when your partner has status in Canada......if you are applying inland, ensure you submit inland sponsorship + OWP......the OWP will grant your partner implied status......you may need to at the same time submit application for extension of your partner temporary visa to be safe and remain in status until the OWP is approved or in case your application is returned and need to re-submit application.
If you’re in a common-law relationship
You can sponsor the person as your common-law partner (same or opposite sex) as long as you’ve been living or have lived with your partner for at least 12 consecutive months in a marriage-like relationship.

Apply when you have solid proof of one year of cohabitation. Generally, people don't have proofs from day 1, so they end up applying after the one year mark.
