I have received my PR card in Feb 2010. At that time I was doing my Masters in USA and later I got job in USA so since then I have been living in USA. Currently my job is getting bit unstable and I am thinking about moving to Canada. I would like to know that in terms of PR card maintenance requirement by when I MUST move to Canada. Here are my PR card details:
Landed as PR : 14 Aug 2010
PR Expiration Date: 22 Feb 2016

Generally you have to stay physically in Canada total 730 days( 2 years) within 5 years. It means within 22nd Feb 2016 you have to stay in Canada total 730 days so that u are able to apply for your PR renewal.
1. Have 730 days of physical presence in Canada in the 5 years prior to your application date (if you have been a PR for more than 5 years at application date).
2. Be able to have 730 days of physical presence by the date 5 years from grant of PR (where you have been a PR for less than 5 years at application date). This usually applies to those who have lost PR cards within 5 years of PR grant.
The clock starts ticking on your landing date so the first 5 year period you must meet the requirements of 730 days in Canada is between August 14 2010 and August 14 2015. After that, it is a rolling 5 year period so days you stayed in Canada that move outside this 5 year window need to be replaced with new days stayed in Canada. After you are a PR for 5 years, you should always be able to look back and say that in the past 5 years, you have at least 730 days in Canada.
