Hi, I am Danish and we are applying for outland family sponsorship through my Canadian wife. We have mailed in our application to the Mississauga office on Dec. 11 2014 and got notification from the postal service that the package was received and signed for on Dec. 16 2014. We are wondering if we should receive something from CIC in the form of email or letter saying that they have received our application or will we not hear anything until the sponsorship approval comes in? And how long did either of these take?
Thanks so much for your help

My understanding of the process is that you won't hear anything until you get Sponsor Approval. At the current time, that's sitting at about six weeks.
The applicant, not the sponsor, should receive an Acknowledgement of Receipt via email. This seem to be taking a bit more than a month right now.
After AOR, I guess you don't receive any further communication until sponsor approval - assuming of course they don;t request more information, or your application gets returned because you forgot to sign a page or used the wrong version of a form

this is not accurate for OUTLAND Sponsorship. The SPONSOR receives AOR and SA. Right now AOR and SA are taking upwards of 60 days, as CIC is currently processing October 16 applications, per their website. Generally, the applicant does not receive communication from CIC until their application is at the visa office and either a) the visa office sends an AOR (only a select few offices do this), b) CIC needs more information or c) the visa has been issued.
