The question is in the thread title. I have already booked a one-way flight to where I want to study, for December 30th this year. This is because even if I don't get accepted into the university or don't get a student visa, I'll still want to travel to Canada then to see my boyfriend (in this case I would later book a return flight too, of course). But in the case that I do get accepted into the university for January 2014 and do get my student visa in time, is it okay to enter Canada with that visa as soon as I have it in my pocket? Or will they only let me in after a specific date, for example January 1st, 2014? Thanks!

I am also planning to get in Canada for jan intake in GBC. I heard that its good to be in canada in december before chirstmas because after christmas things get really slow and new comers find difficulties in settling down. How far is this true? would you suggest to come down before Christmas?
