What working permit i need to apply for while waiting for PR?

Hi All:

Does anyone know what working permit I need to apply for while waiting for my PR?

I read online that I need to get an open work permit and then apply for a bridging work permit. Is this true?

At the moment I am on a postgraduate open work permit.

Did you apply for PR under CEC? If yes, when and did you receive your file no (AOR)?

Then, you are eligible to apply for Bridging open work permit which will allow you to work in Canada till the decision on your application.

AOR - Acknowledgement of Receipt; this you receive after applying for PR (permanent residency). After you receive your AOR you become eligible for BOWP (bridging open work permit) when your current work permit is valid less than 4 months (it will be end of July for you) .

Thanks All. Just one question. I haven't filed my PR yet, but planning on doing it in July. So do i wait till the AOR and then apply for the bridging permit or do I have to apply for the OPEN WORK PERMIT first and then apply for the BP once I get AOR?

Sorry to ask all those questions, it's just that I read online that to apply for a BP you need to apply for an OWP. Just trying to make sense of the info out there.

^Yes, that bullet is tad confusing.
What it basically means is that for you to be granted a permit under the BOWP guidelines, you need to submit an application for an Open WP (is this still confusing)?

1) Apply for PR - doesn't matter if it's CEC or some other stream
2) Wait for the AoR - acknowledgement receipt
3) Apply for an Open Work Permit

Apply for CEC, wait for AOR, then apply for an OWP <- this is for the BoWP.

I don't want to get very technical into the semantics, but what the CIC website is saying is that the BOWP is not automatically granted to those with existing PR application and has an expiring WP. You need to apply for a an open WP, and let the OB485A guidelines work wonders to your application.

Edit: there's really no direct/specific BOWP application. What you're doing is submitting an application for an Open WP, and assuming you are entitled to it, the Bridging guidelines helps streamline this WP application (e.g. less documents and perhaps less scrutiny?).

Your open WP application = the BoWP.....no need to do any other application.

BTW, take it one step at a time.
You need to make sure your PR application is complete since it takes 1-2 months to get an AOR (not sure how long it takes to return an incomplete submission).

I don't want it to happen to anyone, but Murphy's Law is alive and kicking at times, and you may lose valuable time if the PR application is returned.

Don't worry much about the open WP since once you get the AoR, it's pretty straightforward and the effort level is not that high.

I just wanted to clarify what I needed to do with my work permit.

My work permit expires at the end of November, so I want to send my PR app soon. Don't want to get caught in the less than 4 moths valid work permit rule.
