I am wondering what I should include in a cover letter based on the new law that passed that if a couple has a genuine relationship, but is applying just for PR, it will be denied. I was thinking writing about our future plans, that we want to live in a calmer place, there are more opportunities here, that we want a quiet place to have and raise our children etc.. that my wife wants to study a master's degree. She is from Colombia, so even if I could live there, I don't see myself living there all my life but I want to spend my life with my wife!!!!!
Now, I am not sure if I can write this with the new law that just passed...does it mean I just married her so she can come to Canada??? WIll the IO think so? We married early september 2010.
The way I see to get around the new law is the following:
1) Send proof of and mention that you took your time to both decide and plan your wedding, that means, if you booked the reception place several months in advance, send in the receipt. If you discussed wedding plans, future, kids, etc several months before the wedding, include it. You don't want the IO to think this was a last minute decision!
2) Emphasize in your letter that getting married was a decision made by love. Let them know that immigrating to Canada is your best option, it is not the purpose and only way to be together. This means that, you're aware that they can refuse the application, but this would not affect your relationship or plans as you would accept to live with her in Colombia, or anywhere, just to stay together.
This is just an opinion though, but something tells me it would help.
yes, that's a good idea!..... I was also wondering if in the letters my parent wrote to the IO, if they say that my wife wants to immigrate to Canada to live with me, is it OK or they better not say anything..it's a letter notarized to proof our relationship in their eyes?
it could say for example: My name is X and I'm the father of Y who wants to sponsor his wife Z so they can settle in Canada and live together?
or at the end of the letter: We approve, without hesitation their project to come and settle in Canada and we hope this letter will help make this possible.

"My name is X and I'm the father of Y who wants to sponsor his wife Z so they can settle in Canada and live together" sounds ok to me, as that is the purpose of the application. Make sure it doesn't mistakenly sound like the purpose of the marriage: "My son married Z so she can immigrate to Canada".
i think that if you OVER DO IT -- they will think that you are over compensating...
perhaps it would be better just to briefly say thank you for looking at our application we are really excited about the possibility of starting out lives together in canada... blah blah blah...
