Myself Muthu and Iam living in India. Recently I have been selected by a company in Edmonton, Canada. They told me that, they have applied a open work Permit once it received they will call back me to canada. Now my question is, what is meant by open work permit? how many days it will take for processing? what are all the procedure to obtain open work permit? Please clarify my questions. Thanks in advance.
Unfortunatley your post doesn't make much sense. If a company wishes to call you to work for them in Canada - then must apply for a Labour Market Opinion. Once the Labour Market Opinion is approved, you must then apply for a closed work permit.
Based on the information you have provided, you do not qualify for an Open Work Permit.
Have you paid this company money in exchange for the job? If you have, then it's quite possible it's a scam.
Do you qualify for an open work permit based on the information in the link above? If not, then the company cannot be applying for an open work permit - they must be applying for something else.
An open work permit allows you to work for any employer but they are very hard to come by, mostly reserved for spouses of foreign workers or granted to international students after graduation. An employer would not be eligible to apply for an open work permit for you, besides, why would they want to? They want you to stay with them, not go and work for other employers.
A regular or closed work permit is tied to the employer. The employer has to apply for an LMO (labour market opinion) to prove that they have advertised and not found anybody. If they get the LMO, you can apply for a work permit.
What they might have meant is an open LMO and not an open work permit. An LMO can be applied for on your name or without a name (open).
A company that wants to hire foreign workers may apply for a number of open LMO's, even before they start looking for people to fill those jobs.
If they get the LMO, there is another process to add your name to it and then you can apply for a work permit.
The processing time for an LMO is typically a couple of months.
Again, you don't qualify for an oepn work permit. Once the LMO is approved, you will apply for a CLOSED work permit. You can find the processing times here:
