WES has not listed the duration of study for my graduate programs. It merely lists the following for my MS and PhD degrees.

Canadian Equivalency: Master's degree
Canadian Equivalency: Earned doctorate (Ph.D.)

Is this likely to be a problem given that I am trying to count 2 degrees ( one atleast 3 years ) for FSW points ?

Two degrees is irrelevant for you. You will get maximum points for your PhD. 2 degrees or more would give you fewer points.

The duration is also irrelevant in your case.

Thanks. Can you point me to the relevant page for this ? I can only see CRS - C Skill Transferability Factors -> Education ; that offers 50 points for 2 degrees and CLB 9 first language.

Check here:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/express-entry/grid-crs.asp

You will see that a PhD gets you 140 points for education, which is the maximum score. There is no way to get more than that for education, mo matter what other degrees you have.

I guess, I'm not following. You're saying that it's not possible to claim points for Skill Transferability factors ( 100 points )?

The CRS score calculator tool ( http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/crs-tool.asp ) says that I getting 150 points for Core Human Factors - level of education and 50 points for Skill Transferability Factors - Education.

Is this not accurate? What am I missing ?

Skill transferability is a separate score from your education score.

The maximum you can get for education is 140, which you will get because of your PhD.

The skill transferability category can get you up to 100 points. If you have a great language score, CLB 9+, combined with your degree, you will get 50 in that category and depending on how many years of foreign work experience you have, you will get another 25 or 50.

For example, a master or phd holder with CLB 9 or higher and 3 years of foreign work experience will get 100 in skill transferability so in that case the type of degree doesnt matter. But in the education category bachelor, master and phd will result in a different score.

So education and skill transferability together can add up to a maximum of 240 points.

Well, you didnt mention a spouse so the numbers I gave you are for a single applicant. The education score maximum with a spouse is 150 instead of 140.

But other than that my example from above works the same either way.

Ah great. So back to my original question.

WES has not mentioned the duration of my study. Will this be an issue in trying to get points for Skill Transferability Factors - Education? It has the following requirement:

Two or more post-secondary program credentials AND at least one of these credentials was issued on completion of a post-secondary program of three years or longer

Since your highest degree is a PhD, you will always qualify for the highest education related category and there wont be an issue with that. No need to worry about the missing duration.

Also, keep in mind that when you create your profile, the system automatically calculates your points based on the information you entered, so its not like you could choose the wrong category for your profile, when it comes to points for education and skills transferability.

Just enter your PhD and Preceeding Masters degree, when you create your profile and the system automatically adds up all the points for you.
