I'm asking for a friend of mine. I appreciate any insight.
She is married with 3 children. Her and her husband just received their PR status in Canada. The eldest child has a pending Humanitarian application. They are going through a rough time right now as her husband just lost his job. They are thinking of going on social assistance for a little while to get back on their feet. Just to note, the eldest daughter has moved out but is still using the parents address.
Will going on social assistance affect their future citizenship application in any way? Also how would it affect the adult child's application. Can her application be refused if they receive social assistance.

It won't affect the citizenship application. However it's possible it may weaken the daughter's H&C application - hard to say without knowing full details such as why she believes she has a claim to H&C.

Sometimes H&C applications can be refused if the applicant isn't working and cannot demonstrate they are financially self-supporting. If the daughter is using the same address as the parents they it may not be good if they are taking social assistance. But again, hard to say with no information.
