Hi, Please help me with the following situation,

My Aunt (63 yrs) She sponsored her husband and he Landed to Canada last month. My Aunt was working in shop from where she laid off, her health condition also not so good. Would she aply for welfare and waht will be the impact ?
Her husband age is 77 right now he also cannot go for a work.

Thank you so much for your help.

how long has she been in canada and how long has she been working here?

Hi,

She has been in canada almost 3 years and she has been working for around 1 year..

Thanks

K if she has was legally employed here and she has enough hours build up to claim unemployment insurance she should consider going for that first , If she has no other support then unfortunately they will have to go for welfare , but I would keep that as a last option as she will have trouble sponsoring anyone else if they have to. She would be able to claim pension at 65 .

Another thing I just remembered is that if she has only been in canada for around 3 yrs and if she got sponsored to come to canada her sponsor might still be responsible for her well being . If that is the case and they apply for welfare they will have to prove that that they are not living with their sponsor and that the sponsor has stopped taking care of them. If they do that then the sponsor is going to get a bad rep. So I would really think it over before going the welfare route.
