Most of the posts here are quite old and I was just wondering how long first stage approvals take for inland spousal sponsorships nowadays (November 2017)? We sent our application in October and was wondering when we would hear back from them? Like to tell us that they will start processing etc...
I also included an open work permit application there and was wondering how long that usually takes to get?
The whole processing times on the CIC website says it takes about 12 months for inland spousal sponsorships but does that include the waiting time for the first stage approval?
Input would be greatly appreciated from those who have recently applied in 2017. I know the process has changed quite a bit from what I heard.

Usually cic will send you a letter if all your documents are complete. It takes 3 months to get that email. Also the processing time for the work permit is 3-4 months. Moreover the 1 year processing time includes sponsor approval, medical and everything involved in the processing.
We applied for inland spousal sponsorship Oct 2017 ,included in the app are restoration of status (since my visa extension renewal was refused )and OPW ...any idea of which one will be processed first ? Any input is much

Hey hey,
the 12 months includes the AIP (1st stage of approval)
Today marks 12 months since they started processing my application (no decision as of yet)
We received the OWP 4 months after applying with 1st stage of approval around that time as well.
I applied under Family Sponsorship approximately 9 weeks ago now and still haven't received an initial email to say processing has started. I am outside of Canada so cannot call their helpline. Can anyone advise whether this period of time is such that I need to chase or is it normal?
Any advice would be much appreciated - as hoping to move by February next year if we can!
