Visitor Visa - Urgent clarifications please

If my Uncle is visiting us from India, should he just apply for a tourist visa or Visitor Visa claiming that he is going to stay with us & visit us? Kindly let me know which category belongs to as he is not directly related to family or extended family. Right?
In that case, can I still give an Invitation letter to him stating that he will stay with us?
BTW, we hold Canadian passport here
