Hi, my parents visitor visa is expiring on July 1 2023 (due to old passport expiry) and they are planning to visit us in May 2023 and will be staying with us for 5 months. Their passports are renewed.
My question:
1. Should we apply for new visitor visa with new passport? Timeline is currently 5-6 months to receive TRV (temporary resident visa)
OR
2. They travel with their initial visitor visa and apply for extension (visitor record) once they arrive (on new passport)
What could be the best option? Highly appreciate if anyone can share their experience.

No need for extension if they have plans to stay less then 6 months since normally they will be allowed to stay up to 6 months from the date of entry (they wouldn't be considered illegal even visas got expired after entry) however if they would allowed to stay less than 6 moths by the cbsa then they can apply for extension. And yes they can travel with renewed passport with having valid visa on the expired passport
