Visitor Visa for my mother

Hi All,

My wife is pregnant and baby is due on April 9th. I want my mother to be here for moral support during the pregnancy
and to look after the baby for few months. I am currently in Canada on Temporary Residence (Work Permit) ,
which expires on 19 April 2011. My company has applied for extension of Work permit and currently in process.
Right now my Visa is on 'implied status' .

Can i sent invitation letter to my mother for applying Visitor visa for 4 months from 15 March to 15 July ???.
Will the Visa officer consider that my work permit is on extension process and approve the visa ??.

Or should i ask any of my friends to send an invitation letter to mother ?
