That is incorrect information. As a visitor you can’t apply for a new TRV from Canada it has to be processed abroad. You should really be applying for a study permit for your child.

that is incorrect. As a visitor they can’t apply for a TRV from Canada. They can attempt to extend their stay in Canada which is not the same as applying for a new TRV. TRVs are for visiting so there is an expectation that you would have to be abroad to want to visit Canada.
Yes you should be applying for a study permit for your child. We are seeing many children of temporary residents get their TRVs refused and be told to apply for a study permit if over age 4. Your child would also be given a longer stay that way that will expire at the same time as your permit.
