Visitor Visa Extension

Hello everyone,

I am really confused, I got question regarding Visa extension. My mother was given Visitor Visa for 2 years in Oct, 2017 ( expiry Oct,2019). She came to Canada for 1 month in Aug 2018. She came again this year in Sept,2019, Officers at airport stamped her passport, but didn't write the date till when she can stay in Canada, Visa expires in Oct,2019. Now we want her to stay till Jan,2020. Correct me if I am wrong, She can stay in Canada for 6 months and Visa is just required for entry. If she wants to leave and come back then she would need Visa. Do we need to apply for extension of her stay if shes here till Jan,2020?

She was given 6 months visitor status when she entered this month.
