Visitor visa extension

Hello, my girlfriend is Japanese citizen and we are just wondering how long she can stay in Canada under visitor visa? We know she can be issued a 6 month visitor visa and we were told that she can keep extending that visa as long as we have substantal funds in her bank account for the following 6 months. Is this correct? Is there a chance an extension can be denied even if she has the funds in her account?

There is no set amount of time. Many people have been able to extend their visitor status for a few years but there is never a guarantee.
