We have applied for the Canadian visitor visa extension for our daughter (PR is in process for her - in the initial stage). she is a US born and she is on visitor visa here with us (we are Permanent Residents). We did send the visa extension application package (hard copy) to the vergeville (alberta) office. Would they send us any acknowledgement back or we should wait for the whole processing time (90 days) to get over to hear back from them? What if the application package gets missed or misplaced in the processing office, as we don't have any acknowledgement from the processing office. In that case, we will be in trouble.

They don't usually give an acknowledgment, they either approve or refuse the application. You should have mailed it Registered Mail, you would have received an official receipt from Canada Post and a signature on delivery as proof if was received by CIC.
