Hi, I applied to extend my stay in Canada before my work permit expires. I am planning to travel in December to my country. Do I need to withdraw that application and start a new one when I get back to my country? Will it affect my future applications? In the form, how will I answer the question "Have you ever remained beyond the validity of your status,... without authorization in Canada?" Will I answer "no" if I withdraw my application? Do I need to mention the application number?

A VR is just to remain in Canada. Once you leave it is cancelled because no longer need. If you want to return to Canada, you need a valid TRV to re-enter.

You should inform IRCC that you have left Canada.
