Hi everyone!

my sister in law is here from Hong Kong since December as tourist. She was supposed to go home in June but flights have all been cancelled.

she just submitted her application for extension and tell me she only included my husbands letter stating we are housing and feeding her until she can return home. But she didn’t include a bank statement from herself or him. I’m concerned now they’ll deny her and ban her because her application is incomplete. Can she cancel it and resubmit it or will they contact us for more proof of funds? I think she assume it’ll be accepted given the circumstance and not worry too much about details. ‍♀️

I’m also concern that we put ourselves as her financial support because when she landed she told CBSA she was here to visit her bf but they broke up a few months ago and she was with us since. Will they see this as misleading? I’m wondering if we should mention it in the application?

Agree that you should send in her bank records via webform. Visitors are expected to prove that they can support themselves financially.

Honestly, tell her it was seriously stupid not to include actual proof of finances; that is the most important document to submit in an extension app. It will not just be "accepted given the circumstances". IRCC will not contact her for further information. They will just refuse the app if they are not satisfied with the proofs.

She didn't need to mention anything about her boyfriend.

Thank you everyone for your advice!

You’re right, we should’ve talked to her about it before she submitted also. Huge misjudgment on our parts. I’ll definitely submit it by web form and hopeful they see it. Luckily she just sent it last night.

That’s good! I just worry because I wouldn’t want anything to seem misleading.
