Visitor applying for OWP

Hi,

I was wondering how soon can a person holding visitor visa (TRV) apply for Open Work Permit (OPW) after entering Canada? Also, on what basis is the validity of visitor visa decided?

Any advise will be greatly appreciated.

This is not possible. You are not eligible for an OWP from being a simple visitor. Visitor visa are normally only 6 months. If the immigration officer decides, this can be varied but is usually shortened rather than extended.

However, I suspect that you are not asking as a simple visitor, looking at your previous posts. Is this for an accompanying spouse to a study visa holder?

Yes, this is for my spouse. The problem is we both wanna go together but I haven't received my study permit as yet (applied on June 3rd). We had a plan of applying for his OWP after I get my study permit. But I think this will not be possible anymore because as per CIC, processing time of OWP for India is approximately 4 months My course will start on August 25th which is just 2 months from now.

So I was wondering if he can accompany me as a visitor and then apply for OWP from within Canada/ :-X

It certainly helps zardoz Thank you very much.

So, I think he will have to apply for TRV now and soon after we reach Canada, he can start working on his OWP application.

Just to confirm, he will need to mail his OWP application to the below address correct??

Also, will we have to call CIC to check processing time of OWP application applied from within Canada because that link does not have any information about processing time
