visiting US for conference before PR card arrives, qorax and landed seniors help

if i have a valid US visa I obtained from Nigeria, can I visit US for a conference after I have landed in canada before arrival of PR card.

will I not need travel document, can i get one fast from US to return back to canada. Pls advise, i can wait for 40 days before going for the conference.

Usually at the border BSA will permit an entry from US if coming by road with a copy of COPR even though it is not a valid document for travel. But you need PR Card or PRTD to travel back by air.

I answered your question in the other thread -

Depends on how you will travel back to Canada. If you drive across the border, you don't need a travel document (your COPR and passport will suffice for non-commercial means of transportation). If you are flying back directly to Canada, you'll need a travel document from the nearest Consulate of Canada in the US (unless you are visa exempt to Canada, in which case you could probably convince the airline to let you board)

Hi,

1. Yes, u can... No issues there at all.
2. If u enter by road and by pers. car or taxi, u'd not require the PR cards, our COPR suffices. However, if u take Greyhound or travel by air or sea, u must have ur PR cards or a PRTD.

Confirmation of Permanent Residence ( COPR ) - The document you receive from visa office along with your passport after stamping the PR visa.

BSA :An officer of the Canadian Boarder Service Agency called CBSA in short too.

PRTD is Permanent Resident Travel Document in lieu of PR Card issued from a Canadian embassy
