My husband is coming to see me for two weeks over Christmas. We have paid the immigration fees through my bank and he has a copy of the receipt. He has the basic copy of the immigration application to show we are doing this the legal way. He has a letter from his employer saying hes on vacation for two weeks and the date he is expected back to work and he has his return ticket to show he has the intentions to return back to the UK. Should he expect any problems coming into Canada?
Dont worry.
He is from a visa exempt country and he has alot of documentation.
Plus he is obviously coming for the christmas holidays!
I am from the 3rd world, didnt walk with any document, did not have a copy of my return ticket (i lost it) and they asked me a whole bunch of questions and still let me in!
Just make sure hubby is prepared to answer basic questions about you if asked.
e.g. full name, birth, address etc.
There is probably a good chance they will take him aside for "secondary inspection" and ask a lot of questions, but if this happens, don't panic! This is not considered a "problem" getting into Canada. At worst, it shouldn't take more than about 20 minutes of questioning, but there is also a good chance that they will wave him through after a few very quick questions. With the employer letter and the return ticket, everything is actually likely to go very quickly.
What if I went to visit my wife, during our sponsorship process, but had not job waiting for me back home ? of course I'b buy a return ticket, but I wouldn't have any real ties to my home country...
Can someone please advise me on that? I'm thinking about going there and spending sometime (or maybe the rest of the process) with her...
Would it be easier to go through the border WITH HER or SEPARATED ? she is going back, so I might go with her, if it is easier...
thanks in advance for your help !
PS: I have a valid multiple entries tourist visa, that I got before getting married.
Dadu, with her is better because she can vouch for taking care of your financial needs in person. Have proof that you paid the application fees. The only thing is that lack of ties to your country will make them nervous and they may not let you stay in Canada for long. They are usually less nervous about that if they know an application is in process.
From my personal experience (about 8 trips alone and a single one with my wife), arriving with my wife at the airport and going through secondary inspection with her, was a different ball game... meaning it helped a lot and the interview was lighter, much lighter than the other times I arrived without her. If you decide to fly back together, use only 1 customs form for the 2 of you, by the way... Best of luck, Dadu.
Kitten: your husband will be fine and I highly doubt he will be directed to secondary inspection.
Merry Xmas!.
