Hi,

I'm new to this site so forgive me if my question has been answered before. I've seen lots of comments/questions regarding requesting a visitors record when visiting a CA spouse while an outland PR application is pending. My question is basically whether it is the best practice or good practice to request a visitors record if the visiting spouse knows they will be visiting less than six months (but more than a short visit)?

More details: My spouse got a job in CA (he's a CA citizen, I am a US citizen) and we have filed an outland PR application for me. He started his job 2 1/2 months ago and we've been living apart since he moved back to CA. We filed the sponsorship/PR application for me 2 months ago. I was able to get time off from my job such that I can visit him in CA (with our sons who are CA citizens also) until mid-June. I have to return to my job (I teach at a university in the US) in June for 2 months at least, regardless of whether I've gotten PR.

Is there some benefit to requesting the visitors record other than having your visit be longer than the usual six months? Does CA immigration like for people in my situation to have a VR just so they have it in the system when I enter and exit CA? I want to make sure I don't run afoul of any rules (official or unofficial) but I also don't want to make things unnecessarily complicated for myself going through customs and immigration either. I'll be flying in with my husband and kids, if that makes any difference.

Thanks

Hi

No, it is not good practice to request a VR when entering, especially when not planning to stay longer than 6 months.
