Hi,

A little bit about my situation:

- Between 2013 - 16 I was dating a Russian girl. We met while I was working in the US, and she was studying. I moved back to Canada in late 2013. I was granted a visa to visit her in Russia in 2014.

- Later that year, we tried twice (unsuccessfully) to arrange a visitor's visa for her. We were rejected both times on the premise that she would not leave at the end of the visa. We were honest that she would be staying with me. At this time she was working as a secretary as it allowed her flexibility for visitation. The main purpose of the visit was to attend my cousin's wedding and meet my family, as I had met hers.

- On the second occasion I provided a detailed itinerary of our travels. Upon second refusal, I wrote a letter to the current Minister of Immigration, who happened to be the MP of my riding. He never responded.

- In late 2014 she applied for a college program in Toronto, and was accepted. She had attended Russia's best University prior to this for Journalism and applied for a college marketing program (2 years). We hired a company to assist in the process. They advised that we pay the full amount of the program in advance, which we did. However, her student visa was refused.

- At the beginning of 2015 we decided that we would visit each other in France, and I would then move to England to work as she had been granted a Schengen visa. My career allows for a great flexibility of travel and employment. Between 2015 & 16 she visited the UK multiple times.

- As my UK Visa was nearing an end in 2016 (my employer failed to be granted the ability to sponsor foreign nationals), her inability to be granted a Canadian visa damaged the relationship to the point that we separated and she has remained in Russia to this point (she has travelled many times throughout Asia and Europe in this time period).

- We have, however, since reconnected and are looking to see what has changed (or not) or for any advice regarding Canadian visitor visas for Russian Citizens.

I'm happy to provide documents regarding previous refusals or the letters we wrote at the time.

How our personal situations have changed since 2014/15:

- She now works in Marketing and Advertising, made significant strides in her marketing career and has produced numerous campaigns for major international brands.

- I have become internationally recognized in my field, now earn six figures per annum, own my own business, and teach at a college.

We are both honest people, well educated, accomplished and have never had any legal issues.

Any advice is helpful.

Thank you in advance.

Nothing has changed regarding the visitor visa process.

To be approved, she will need to demonstrate very strong ties to her home country to show she has no plans on remaining in Canada long term. She must also declare all three previous refusals to Canada in her application. This will work against her. The fact she was granted the UK and Schengen visas is a positive and she should include this information in her application. She will want to provide evidence of what funds she has to pay for her trip (she should be able to cover all of the costs of the trip on her own). She will want to show proof of employment including salary/pay stubs and a leave letter from her employer. She will also want to show property ownership (if she owns something) or property rental as a tie. She should keep her trip to Canada short and request 2-3 week at the most.

Your profile isn't at all relevant. The visa will be approved or refused based on the strength of her profile.
