I withdrew my refugee claim before the hearing date was set. I went back to my country and married my boyfriend who is a US citizen. I now have the US green card, and I was wondering if I could visit Canada using my greencard? I've lived 6 years in Canada and made a lot of friends that I would like to see again. But would they deny me entry because I made a refugee claim? Is it better if I wait to become a US citizen and then try to visit Canada again? Also, will this refugee claim haunt me forever wherever I go?
How long have you been outside of Canada? If it's been a few months - I would wait until you try to re-enter. If it's been a year or more, you should be fine. Make sure your trip to Canada is a reasonable length (i.e. a few days or a week rather than a month) - and make sure you pack accordingly. I would also bring extra proof with you that show you now have strong ties to the US (e.g. proof of employment, proof of property ownership / rental, etc.).
Saying the refugee claim will haunt you forever may be a strong word. However it is possible you will face increased scrutiny at some borders as a result.
