We have submitted our spousal sponsorship for PR and is "In Progress" as per CIC.
The applicant currently has an open work permit which expires in 2 months. We are exploring visa options after the work permit expires in order to stay in Canada.
Extending the work permit may not be the best option for us which requires a strong corporate sponsor.
What should we do? a Visitor Visa? is there a Temporary Resident Visa we can apply for? We are looking for at least a year while the application processes. the sponsor does not necessarily have to work.
Also is there any way to qualify for OHIP while the PR is still in progress?
You could probably try for a TRV, not sure if the current PR application will hinder your chances though.. Is there a possibility of extending your work permit?
Im pretty sure extending work permit requires sponsor from employer. We are currently in a casual position which is commission based, so I am not confident that extension can be granted easily. Please advise otherwise.
I am not really familiar with work permits, I apologize.
As for the TRV, it's meant to "visit" Canada, not to "live" there while waiting for other stuff to come through.. I'm no expert so someone else will have to chime in
Good luck!
P.S Where are you from? Is going back to your home country not an option while you wait for PR? Just a thought
i am very confused by this OP's post. how can the sponsor be on a work permit and submit a spousal sponsorship application? doesn't that suggest the sponsor is not a pr or canadian citizen?
from previous posts, it sounds like the sponsor is in canada on a post graduate work permit. wouldn't that suggest their application is through another stream, not spousal sponsorship?

Based on CIC's terms: "We do not issue temporary resident visas (TRV) to permanent residents (PR)"
With this in mind, is there any impact to the PR application still processing? and also what happens to the TRV once the PR has been granted since they stated TRV do not belong with PR's?
