Hello,
My wife will start her ESL program in Toronto by January, and it will last 8 months. One month after this, she will start her Post Secondary full-time program. (a 2 year college)
She will need a Study Permit for the ESL, and once she finishes it, she'll need a new Study Permit for the college.
I can go with her as a visitor during the ESL (no need for a visa), and I'll be able to get an Open Work Permit once she starts the college. Thing is, I can only stay for 6 months. Is there a way I can stay the full 8 months and apply for the Open Work Permit without having to come back to my country? (we live in Brazil by the way)

What if I, for example, stay 4 months in Canada under visitor status and make a short trip to the USA. If I come back, will I be granted another 6 months?

The only reason I can explain is: I want to stay in Canada to live with my wife until she ends her studies. I don't really know if this is considered a good reason.

So this is only a personal view but it might take some convincing that you need to take an ESL course having completed a course which assume was conducted in English. Do you have no plan at all to apply for a PGWP either ?

Yes, all courses in the program I am enrolled in now are conducted in English.
I am not applying for PGWP. The reason for this is because I am attending a private college. Which I know international students who graduated from private colleges are not qualified to a PGWP.
I just wish to improve my English further. That is why I plan to enrol at the York University English Language Institute for a two-month program.
I will apply for an extension of my study permit and an extension of my wife’s open work permit.
