Don't worry, it takes only (averagely) 2 weeks to get an answer from the embassy after doing the medical. And since its fall it shouldn't take more than 2-3 weeks as there are less students in fall applying for student visas in Canada compare to summer.

You can fancy you're chances of the visa before your semester. What is the exact date of your session? .. Moreover, there is also a "last date" to register for a session and normally this can be upto 2 weeks (mine is 5th January and last date is 16th January). So still if you get the visa on the edge of it, you can manage flying and get yourself registered in time.
PS: Ive done my medical on 18th and I'm hoping for the visa any day now. InshaALLAH

I applied in Memorial University of Newfoundland - M.Eng Oil & Gas Engineering.
So practically you have time till 16th January. Even considering 3rd January, you will still have almost a month after your medical so just have Faith, you'll get your visa in due time .. InshaALLAH !
