Ppl with no backlogs and similar profile have got visa refusal as well. There's no hard and fast rule for 100% acceptance but what u can do is take care of few points which lead to maximum rejection such as:
1. Finances/ You will work during studies
2. Purpose of visit
3. You will not return after studies
4. Course is not a progression from previous studies
5. Home ties
So once u take care of things that cause maximum refusals, u will stand at much better place and most likely get a visa. And pray as much as u can, always have a backup plan. VO doesnt like backlogs, they think student is not serious about studies and is using visa to gain entry into canada. So writing a strong SOP will clear his doubt and your positive intentions. Good luck.
DON'T EVER GO TO NZ!! MARK MY WORD!
they barely have jobs, employers ask $10,000 for LMO and most of my friends who went there, returned home. Australia is so much better, richer and jobs are flourishing. Its a bit expensive but wages are really good.

May I know what type of courses did your friends studied in NZ?
I'm planning to do ICT (Info & commn technology) in NZ from CPIT, christchurch if im not applying for canada. some of them are saying that there are chances to get a job if we do IT related course.
