Visa Approved - Wife Pregnant - Options?

hi all - my wife's PR Visa is approved. she is 4 months pregnant currently. two questions:

1) OHIP coverage takes 3 months to kick in. we plan to fly to canada march 10 and 3 months from that date takes us to due date; any way to fast -track OHIP coverage for when she lands?

2) Another option is I move up my trip to Canada, fly home with her for a week and have her then return to the PHL while i stay behind until baby is born. would we need to go through the entire PR process (cost, waiting time) again before she could come to Canada? technically the baby should be canadian at birth since i am so would we just need to get him/her a passport?

Have her come to Canada, see a midwife at reduced (possibly free) rates until OHiP kicks in... She may choose to stay with the midwife regardless, their services are pretty much the same but they offer continuity of care and more attentive interactions (from my experience at least... My drs appts 20 min of waiting 5min with the dr, midwife, 5 min of waiting 20 min with the midwife)...

As long as its not a high risk pregnancy, that's the best way to go IMO...

Just try to give yourself a little more wiggle room with the dates, just reread and there's none...

And no, the 3m is standard... There are subsidized programs to ensure mothers/babies get proper care even if they don't have coverage, midwives is part of that... Do some research, it is likely not as bad as you think...

The law also gives citizenship to some people who have never been citizens. This includes people who:

•were born outside Canada on or after January 1, 1947
•are in the first generation born abroad and
•were born to a Canadian citizen.

No, the baby will be a citizen as long as you are Canadian born or became a citizen thru immigration... If you were born outside Canada to Canadian parents the baby would not be citizen unless

Make sure your wife lands before her medical expires (1yr) or the visa is not valid and you may have to reapply for her

She can come to Canada do the landing process before the VISA expires and return to the Philipines the very next day is she chooses. You will not have to do the whole thing over again. She can return to the Philipines to have her baby and return later.

If you're a Canadian citizen (born in Canada) then your baby will be as well. It takes about 9 months to get a passport for your baby but if you wanted to travel to Canada before that you could get a temporary document for the baby. Your wife will also have to have her PR card mailed to her in the Philipines so she can return to Canada.
