Good question. I was going to ask for the source - because I wasn't able to find a reference for this.

I believe it should be indefinitely valid as long as it hasn’t been applied for any other application, but yeah there is no definitive source on an expiry. I don’t see any reason to pay over a year in advance either.

I don't think 1 year is specified anywhere. IMO, unless and otherwise specified, it would be safe to assume that the fee is valid indefinitely until the first use.
