hi all - i am currently working in US on L1 visa and my visa is expiring in 4 months. I am interested in applying in Canada PR, i need your help with few clarifications.

1. Is it better idea to apply from US when i have to leave to India in 4 months.
2. I am told applying from US will make my PR faster. If I apply from US and leave to India, do i need to transfer my file status to India?
3. What are processing times for PR applying in US and India.

Appreciate your response.

If you are leaving for India after four months on the expiry of your US visa, I would suggest your processing office should be chosen to NEW DELHI. Because you don't have a US visa at that time, if an interview is scheduled by Buffalo office, while processing your application.
Moreover, on approval you need to submit your passport for visa at the processing office. To and fro passport dispatch from India would cause problem.

If your file already processed at Buffalo , it will not be transferred to India.

For processing time of FSW applications in different countries read this:

Thanks for your response wilson, Can i start my application now itself by making new delhi as my primary one?

or do i need to wait till i reach india and start afresh from there?

thanks once again....

Yes, you can start your application now choosing New Delhi as your preferred VO.
Please give you e mail address for mailing address.
Later you can change any address.
In addition place a note that you will be going to India by ---- -- -- on completion of your resident visa in US.

Thanks again wilson.

rajvsm,

software developers are not included in the current priority list of occupations, you'll need a job offer to apply or you have to see if you qualify in the current 29 list of occupations.

Here is the link for more details on occupation list and cap information

Only these 29 categories can apply now. If you have experience in one of these (apart from your software development experience), you can apply. Otherwise you need a job offer.

IT related categories were removed in June 2010 and may never be added in the near future.
