Hi, I just wanted to pose a question regarding my living/driving situation in Canada. I am an American citizen studying at University in Nova Scotia. This year I have brought my car from home as a temporary import to Canada to use during my studies. I‘ve been reading about the driving laws both at a provincial and federal level, and noticed that I may need to exchange my license to a Canadian license due to the extent of my stay in Canada. From what I have read, it seems generally that you’re allowed to drive in Canada for up to six months with a US license, at which point you MUST exchange for a Canadian license. However, my situation is a rather complicated one as I spend a considerable amount of time driving/living in the US when classes are not in session. I am worried that forfeiting my US license may make it more difficult to regain its status back should I need it at home. With the current situation regarding Coronavirus I’m sure it may be difficult to quickly exchange my US license to Canadian, but understand that very soon I will have surpassed my 6-month limit on my US license. To make things a bit more confusing, my current license is set to expire in October as I am turning 21. I am wondering whether it is worth exchanging my license now, if at all, or if I should continue to use my US license. My current summer plans were to remain in Canada and work, however I would be making a few drives back to the US before the Fall semester.

Any help is greatly appreciated!
