Hello!

I am an American born US citizen and my fiance is a Canadian born citizen. We are both currently living in our respective countries. We are exploring the best way to marry and be living together in one of our two countries. I am a student who will complete my masters in the summer of 2018 and after that point want to be living with my fiance permanently. I am looking for advice about the best steps to take between now and the summer of 2018 to make that dream possible. I would welcome any advice or experience! With that, I have a few questions.

First, if he is able to come on a tourist or work visa this summer and we got officially married at that time but he returned to Canada... would we then be able to file a sponsorship or immigrant visa at that point? Does it matter if we get married during a temporary stay (which i not during the fiance visa) if he does not remain in the states?

With a US marriage certificate, is it easier for him to obtain temporary or immigrant status in the states? Or, is it still possible for me to obtain the same status in Canada with the US certificate? Are the time frames for receiving visas similar between the US and Canada, or is one direction or the other better?

If we married here, and applied for the immigrant or spousal visa after the fact, how would that impact our ability to travel between the US and Canada during the application process? Would it impact both of us or only one direction?

During a spousal sponsorship, is it possible for the sponsored person to obtain a work visa or are they not allowed to work during that time frame?

If we married in one state, but moved to another, would that impact is the ability to obtain a visa? Along with that, after a spousal sponsorship or immigrant visa is issued, do we have to remain in that same country for a specified period of time (months, years, etc?)

I hope this makes sense! I am looking for any possible information. Thank you all!
