Hi,
Am I eligible to get a study permit for my son at a public elementary school? he is in grade one and I am divorced and I have got the sole legal custody
and I have got my PR.
Thanks in advance

What is your son's status in Canada? Did he get PR along with you? If not, have you sponsored him for PR now?

I am unable to sponsor him because Canada needs a consent from his father which I cannot get for now. That's why I am asking if I can apply for study permit for him to accompany my son with me to Canada

You can certainly try to apply for a study permit for your son. However you will need to obtain his father's consent before your son can come to Canada. Note that you will have to pay foreign student fees in order for your son to attend school on a study permit. Expect this to be around $12K per year.

DO you mean that he wont be able to enroll to a public school?

$12K would be for public school. Since he's here as a foreign student, he will have to pay fees to attend a public school.

Time to time people are able to get this fee waived by speaking with the school the student will be attending. However this typically requires a PR application to be in progress. In your son's case, he won't have a PR application in progress and it's quite possible the school will insist you pay the fee.

1k = 1000

If your son's father will not consent to you sponsoring your son to come and live in Canada with you, has he given his consent for you to bring your son to Canada with you?

You won't be able to enter the country with your son if he doesn't have either a PR visa or written/notarized consent from his father for you to remove him from your home country.
