I just got a Truck Driver Job couple week ago and I drive to and from USA once a week.
I will have to apply for urgent renewal as it's expiring in just two months.
What "Proof of Travel" I should attach with the application?
Then they say: "Need a valid permanent resident card to re-enter Canada on a commercial carrier (for example: by bus, airplane, train, etc.)."
So as per above statement should I be able to enter Canada with Expired PR card? If say I apply normally or they do not consider my application as Urgent.
But will it be a hassle every time I try to re-enter? Will it be time consuming everytime?
1. As a starting point do you meet the Residence Obligation? If you don't then hold off applying for a PR Card.
2. Are you eligible/ have you applied for Canadian citizenship - it will make border crossing much easier. If you are a PR then this job could significantly increase the number of years before you qualify for citizenship. You may have to re-think the hob if citizenship acquisition is a priority for you.
3. Crossing the land border as you propose as a commercial truck driver with an expired PR Card and landing documents will start of being a hassle and eventually you will be stuck at the border with constant referral to Secondary Inspection. This may eventually impact your ability to do the job by affecting delivery/ travel times.
4. Maybe look into any of the pre-approve trusted traveller programs that CBSA has to expedite border crossings pending PR Card processing.
