I need help in understanding the process to get Canadian Passport for the child born in UAE. I am a Canadian Citizen working in UAE and we had a baby born last week in Dubai.
How can I get passport for the baby? As per the process, first I have to apply for "certificate of citizenship" and thereafter, I can apply for passport. The processing time for "certificate of citizenship" is 17 months. That means I wont be able to apply for baby's passport for 17 months.
In UAE everything is linked to resident visa and emirates ID. I cannot apply for both without baby's passport. Is there a way I can get citizenship certificate sooner or get a passport while the citizenship application is being processed.
Contact the closest Canadian consular section (likely Dubai or Abu Dhabi) - it should be possible to apply for a temporary passport (on the basis that the child is a presumed citizen), I believe by submttiing app for passport and citizenship certificate together. When you get the citizenship certificate later you will exchange for full passport.
Note, I believe there have been some reports here that cit certificates for newborns/minors are not taking the full 17 months, but rather something more like six to eight months - this is not certain though. But you at any rate need to contact the consular section.
